This week we had a discussed what beauty is. But that is where we have a problem. For the picture above you can say he is beautiful. Whether it's because of the lighting on his skin. Or if it's because of the position the photographer used. But will everyone see it that way. Some people might not see this piece as beautiful, which according to Immanuel- Kant, "     There can be no rule by which someone could be compelled to acknowledge something has Beautiful..."
This I feel like is important has an artist. is very important. You will always have a critique in the artist world,
Whether it is from yourself, someone you know, or some random person that just doesn't find your picture beautiful.
You cannot please everyone. I also feel like this is an important lesson in life has well. Just because some people find.
Something beautiful or likes something doesn't mean you have to has well. Live your life the way you want to and no
other way. Ruskinek we had a discussed what beauty is.

"beauty"; at the same time, he explicitly acknowledges the extent to which beauty's obviousness is always.
Subjective." I feel like from an historian viewpoint. This idea may help you see how people in the time period.
may be looking at different pieces, but when it comes to different styles of art pieces. It will be really useful in comparing beauty between two differnt
types of art. Like an oil panting versus an photo.

  1. You stated that as artists we don't have to see things as beautiful ourselves, however, we must be able to acknowledge the pieces that are still beautiful despite our opinion, and I could not agree more. I know of many, many people who will look at the image you shared and immediately react with disgust - but only purely because its against every "moral" code they were raised on and believe in. On the other hand, I find the photograph beautiful, but that is because I find all bodies beautiful and don't allow any sort of rhetoric to guide how I see things.

  2. You make a great point in regard to pleasing people. We cannot allow ourselves to become people pleasers in a world where that is completely impossible. As you said, there will always be a critique no matter what. This sends a powerful message to everyone who doubts themselves or their abilities.
